WINTERS — November 2, 2026. Winters’ April 2026 City Manager update says the city is working to meet California’s new hexavalent chromium drinking-water limit of 10 parts per billion by October 2027.
What the city disclosed
The city manager reported that some city wells contained approximately 16–24 parts per billion of chromium-6, above the new California limit. The report says the city must issue regular public notices while it works toward compliance.
A treatment project is underway
The city says the City Council approved a plan and a capital improvement project to meet the October 2027 compliance deadline. A project being underway does not mean the system is already compliant with the state standard.
Where to see current testing
Winters Public Works posts its 2025 Water Quality Report and additional quarterly chromium-6 notices. For current status and questions, residents should consult those reports and contact Public Works, rather than rely only on an April statement.
